The bill for Britain's membership in the European Union came to $466 per household in 2010, UPI quoted the European Commission as saying. The Daily Telegraph in Britain reported Saturday the bill for participation in the European Union for the year more than doubled from 2009, with the total coming to $16.3 billion. For the average British household, the net payout to the EU is growing, as contributions have risen faster than what Britain receives in farm subsidies and social benefits. Although France, Germany and Italy pay more than Britain to pay for EU membership, both France and Italy receive higher returns than Britain, the newspaper said. In comparison to Britain, Poland paid $4.5 billion to the EU in 2010 and received $15.8 billion in return.
