Chris Thomson, President and CEO of Brand USA, told reporters on the sideline of a Sino-U.S. tourism exchange event, that the number of Chinese travelers visiting the United States is increasing by 35 percent each year, beating any other country in the world. Chinese travelers spent 8.8 billion U.S. dollars last year in America, and each spent an average of 7,000 U.S. dollars, making America the top spending destination for Chinese tourists, he said. He said 5.76 million people have travelled to the United States since the country granted the Authorized Travel Destination Status to Chinese citizens in 2007.
