Employment for southern Italian women at an all-time low

Employment for women in Italy's southern regions known as the Mezzogiorno is at its lowest since 2004, according to a report published by the national statistics agency Istat. Working women are an "exception" in the southern regions, with only 16.9%, or less than two out of 10 women under 30 employed. Overall national statistics for unemployment in recession-hit Italy remained at 10.7% in August, the same as in July and June, keeping it at the highest level since January 2004, Istat said last week.
