European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton Monday called upon all donors to step in and help the Palestinian Authority, stressing the importance of moving forward on all political issues and addressing the dire economic situation and security issues of concern to both Palestinian and Israeli parties. In a statement issued in Brussels, following the meetings of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee for Palestine (AHLC) on Sunday in New York, and the meeting of the AHLC Chair in Norway with the representatives of the donor community on Monday, Ashton reaffirmed the EU's position on the need to move urgently towards the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, in the interest of stability, prosperity, lasting peace and security in the region. She stressed that the achievements in building Palestinian state institutions as well as the economic viability of PA are crucial in this context.
