Greek firm Aktor has been awarded the contract for the construction of the new motorway section Demir Kapija-Smokvica along pan-European "Corridor X" in Fyrom (former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia), a notice on the website of Tenders Electronic Daily informs. The contract is worth 210.1 million euros. There were 15 competitors for the deal. The duration of the contract is 72 months. The length of the section is about 28.2 km and there are two double-tube tunnels above one km length, six bridges and two interchanges, five overpasses and seven underpasses. The cost of the project was estimated previously at 271 million euros and the country has secured a number of funding sources, including a 130 million euros loan from the EIB, a 107 million euros sovereign loan from the EBRD, an EU IPA grant of 45 milion euros and 6 million euros provided by the FYR Macedonia's government. Some 90 million euros of the EBRD loan was to be allocated for the motorway construction, with the remainder to be used for modernisation of the toll collection system and the toll plazas.
