Industrial production fell in Europe in June compared to May, the EU statistical office Eurostat reported Tuesday. Production fell 0.6 percent in the 17-member eurozone and 0.9 percent in the 27-member European Union, the data branch of the European Commission said. Production of capital goods declined 1.3 percent in both the eurozone and the EU. Non-durable goods production dropped 0.7 percent in the eurozone and 1 percent in the larger EU. Production of energy rose in the eurozone, climbing 0.4 percent but dropped 0.2 percent in the eurozone. Among the 21 countries from which data is available, production fell in 16 states and rose in 5. The largest decrease was in Britain where industrial production fell 2.5 percent. The largest gain was in Lithuania where production rose 18.6 percent.
