International Donors Conference for Darfur ends

Qatar's Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad bin Abdallah al-Mahmud announced on Monday, the promised financial aid would be 3.6 billion USD for the rebuilding of Darfur by donor countries. The International Donors Conference for Darfur which took start in Qatari capital Doha on Sunday with the attendance of Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag, Sudan's First Vice President Ali Osman Mohammed Taha, Secretary General of the Arab League, Nabil el-Araby, Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu and representatives of UN and African Union has ended. Al-Mahmoud who held a press conference following the closing session of the conference stated that the promised financial aid for the rebuilding of Darfur by donor countries would be $3.6 billion. He added, this amount would be enough for strategic development plans which will be fulfilled in the next four years of time. Al-Mahmoud stated, "The conference went very well. Many of the participating countries promised to increase the amount they provided during the application period." Earlier on Sunday, Bozdag said, Turkey was fully supporting the efforts of Sudanese government, Arab League, African Union and UN to restore fair and permanent peace in Darfur. Following his speech delivered on Sunday, Bozdag told AA that Turkish hospital in Nyala, capital of South Darfur, would be opened soon.
