A visiting Japanese delegation demonstrated to the Kuwaiti private sector its advanced know-how in the field of renewable energy technology and its wide array of uses, it was learned here on Tuesday. The delegation represented Japan Cooperation Center for the Middle East (JCCME) and its demonstration took place at the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry building, said the Chamber's board member Adel al-Yousifi, who noted that the delegation explained in detail applications of renewable energy technology in the fields of environment, health, and infrastructure. Showing great interest in the delegation's presentation of facts and figures today, al-Yousifi acknowledged the close economic ties Kuwait has with Japan. He said that Japan was Kuwait's third trading partner, after the US and China, with a trade exchange of USD 13.44 billion in 2010. On his part, delegation chief and CEO of the JCCME Seiji Hirota noted that with the growing size of the work force in the Middle East and a burgeoning population overall, it seemed axiomatic that there would be a high demand for conventional energy or better yet affordable energy substitutes. He stressed that Japan was enthusiastic about working together with Middle East nations on tapping renewable energy sources and developing their potentials in myriad fields. He acknowledged that Japanese government was working closely with Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research to instigate a number of agreements regarding the undertaking of studies and researches aimed at applying renewable energy technologies in Kuwait.
