
The U.S. Labor Department said first-time jobless benefits claims fell by 24,000 to 334,000, in the week that ended Saturday. The four-week rolling average also fell, dropping by 5,250 to 346,000. The largest decreases in initial claims for the week ending July 6 were in New Jersey, where the number of first-time benefits claims fell by 4,370, California with a drop of 4,265 and Texas with 3,133 fewer claims. The largest increases were in Michigan with a gain of 17,700, New York, gaining by 15,163 and Pennsylvania with 4,831 additional claims.
