A national delegation representing the Government and the National Union for Kuwait Laborers and Employees (NUKLE) is due to take part in the 102nd Session of the International Labor Conference scheduled in Geneva on June 20. NUKLE General Secretary Fares Mohammed Al-Sewagh said in a statement to KUNA a delegation, including figures representing the union, the government, employers and employees, would fly to Geneva, on Sunday, to participate in the international convention. The delegation will be involved in activities of the convention and will hold sideline meetings with members of specialized commissions to examine Kuwait's implementation of some international conventions in this sector. He indicated at many positive remarks, forwarded by the commission of experts of the International Labor Organization, regarding Kuwaiti labor laws and legislations, namely the law for regulating private labor which conforms with international standards. However, the experts still have some "negative remarks," namely with respect of the expatriates' sponsorship law and some legal aspects concerning house maids. Their remarks also address issues such as indiscrimination, protection of women laborers and workers of unknown citizenship (also known as the bedoun or illegal residents). The delegation will also take part in other meetings on fringes of the international convention, including a meeting of the GCC labor officials, the Arab Group and another for solidarity with Palestinian workers.
