Late Russian oligarch’s debts may be reassigned to successors

Debt of the late Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky, who died in unclear circumstances in Ascot, Britain, March 23, may be reassigned to his legal successors, a source at the press office of the Federal Service of Bailiffs said Friday. “The inter-district department of bailiffs in charge of especially important enforcement proceedings is considering five court enforcement actions Boris Berezovsky at the moment and the financial claims against him total 3,275 million rubles,” the source said. “These proceedings are incorporated in a combined enforcement action against Berezovsky and the solidary debtors,” he said. The claimants in the enforcement action are Russia’s major airline Aeroflot and the Samara region government. The source recalled that provisions of the federal law on enforcement actions enable the bailiffs to substitute the debtor for his legal successors on the basis of a court ruling.
