Malta's Transport Minister Joe Mizzi said on Friday that the rebuilding of one of Malta's coast roads, the Road Salina, is expected to cost some 53 million euro (74 million U.S. dollars). Addressing a press conference, Mizzi said he was pressing contractors to finish projects on time and in line with the approved budget. The minister said the massive coast road project, which was being built through EU funds and involved widening of the road, needed 60 weeks for completion and the works had already reached advanced stages after just four weeks. The Salina Coast Road is located on the northern coast of Malta and is currently classified as a "single 2-lane road" and will be widened approximately by 10 meters, turning it into a dual two-lane carriageway. The road is also expected to have bicycle lanes.
