The Director General of Kuwait Municipality Ahmad Al-Sabeeh stressed yesterday that all retailers selling rotten foodstuffs or other foods unfit for human consumption are being pursued and any foods in these categories are confiscated and destroyed, rejecting claims that some of these foodstuffs have been offered for sale in local shops. Al-Sabeeh told KUNA that the municipality will ensure that the upcoming holy month of Ramadan will be "free of any spoilt food items." He continued, "Kuwait Municipality is serious about blocking the entry of any food unfit for human consumption through conducting heavy monitoring and ongoing inspection campaigns. The senior official explained that all confiscated rotten food items are destroyed at the municipality's landfill sites beside the Sixth Ring Road, with the work going on throughout the week, encouraging media outlets to attend the food incineration operations to help refute claims that the municipality is "not doing its job properly. He noted that strict procedures are followed in confiscating bad food, explaining that the Municipality, Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Commerce work closely together in these operations. Al-Sabeeh added that municipality inspectors have also been instructed to monitor street vendors who sell dairy products, issue citations to door-to-door salespeople and remove any Ramadan or Eid Al-Fitr greeting signs displayed in public areas.
