The State of Qatar has announced to offer US$ 500 million as contribution for financing development projects in Yemen. In a statement during the 4th meeting of the Friends of Yemen held on the sidelines of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, HE Dr. Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah said the State of Qatar has started to prepare a program for stability and development in the Republic of Yemen and allocated US$ 500 million in grants and loans to fund development programs. By contributing to this development program, the State of Qatar seeks to achieving sustainable development and security in Yemen while supporting the aspirations of the Yemeni people for development and decent life, Dr. Al Attiyah explained. He pointed out that Qatar has started already the implementation of those development projects after studying the development needs and priorities of the various Yemeni provinces. In this context, Dr. Al Attiyah has reviewed the "unprecedented" economic, political, security and humanitarian challenges facing the Yemeni people, stressing that security, stability and development of Yemen are international responsibilities and their repercussions for international security justify international obligations to meet sustainable development in Yemen. Dr. Al Attiyah stressed the importance of bilateral relations between Qatar and Yemen, pointing out that the State of Qatar continues to support development efforts and meeting the humanitarian needs of the Yemeni people.
