Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) led the Qatar delegation at ITB Berlin, one of the most important annual tourism events in Europe, which was inaugurated here today with participation of a number of the world’s countries and tourism companies and authorities . QTA hosts the new state of the art Qatar Pavilion with a design and features that reflect QTA’s new vision to promote and develop the tourism industry in Qatar. QTA also uses the event to outline the major development of tourism infrastructure that is taking place in Doha and highlight the latest buoyant tourist statistics in the 2012 Annual Report. These show that Qatar has made great strides in attracting more regional and overseas tourists to the country. With the opening of several major hotels and many more under construction, Qatar is ready to welcome the world to its shores. QTA has also staged cultural festivals and supported several international business events and sports fixtures to underline the country’s appeal. Chairman of QTA Eng. Issa Al-Mohannadi, said: “QTA sees ITB as an all-important event to showcase Qatar and all our stakeholders as we develop a new tourism strategy for the country that looks to raise awareness of all that Qatar has to offer in Europe and further afield. With its rich authentic cultural offerings and welcoming safe atmosphere, Qatar has become the destination of choice for families, which is borne out by the increase in the number of family visitors in 2012. Qatar is also an established destination for business in the MICE sector and will continue to be the hub of international sports across the whole region with an increasingly significant role to play in the region and on the international stage.” Qatar’s Ambassador to Germany HE Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Kholeifi and the Governing Mayor of Berlin Klaus Wowereit attended the inauguration ceremony of ITB Berlin .
