Saudi Labor Ministry has announced a plan to expand the country's hiring source of domestic workers to 9 new countries to meet the demand, Al Hayat newspaper reported Monday. Among the new countries are Vietnam and Cambodia, which has signed an memorandum of understanding with Saudi Arabia in this regard, the report said. Saudi Minister of Labor Adel Faqih highlighted that all contracts between employers and domestic workers shall be properly insured, explaining that the insurance shall cover compensation for both the worker, in case of illness or death, and the employer, in case that the worker runs away. The plan is part of the efforts to regulate the labor market and protect the rights of domestic workers, as Saudi Arabia put on force last month a domestic worker legislation that regulates relations, duties and rights of employers and workers.
