Ukraine decided Tuesday to strengthen control on imports of Brazilian meat, accusing the products of failing to meet local food safety standards. "We will not make any sudden moves, but will conduct strict monitoring of each batch of pork," Agricultural Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk said during a briefing here. Ukraine plans to reduce meat imports to nearly 250,000 tons this year from 430,000 ton in 2012, due to increased domestic production, Prysiazhniuk told the briefing. Late last month, Ukraine temporarily suspended meat imports from one of the Brazilian producers, saying the meat failed to meet essential Ukrainian standards.
