
In a drive to envisage a promising future for the Western Region, the Western Region Development Council (WRDC), has issued a comprehensive report on model of governance for the Western Region. The report shows that the Western Region is one of the important economic and investment areas in the UAE. It represents 60 per cent of total land area of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, contributing 45 per cent to the GDP of the Emirate. It added that due to the importance of the region, a model for governance has been developed to depict a promising future for the Western Region through focusing on the interests of the region and population so as to achieve the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision, and boost sustainable development as well. Mohamed Hamad bin Azzan Al Mazrouei, WRDC's Director General and Acting Under Secretary of the Court of the Ruler's Representative in the Western Region, has stressed the interest of leadership in the development of the Western Region under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the follow-up by His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. He added that after appointment of H. H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan as the Ruler's Representative in the Western Region, the Western Region has been steadily experiencing comprehensive development and upgrading of the living conditions of citizens. Al Mazrouei noted that the WRDC has so far played pivotal role in the growth of the Western Region in cooperation with the strategic partners.
