Turkish Minister of Transport, Maritime Affairs, & Communications Binali Yildirim said on Tuesday that the most important condition to develop commerce was to establish the infrastructure of transportation and communication between countries. Yildirim received Canadian Minister of International Trade Edward Fast in Ankara, and reminded that the two countries decided to improve the cooperation on transportation infrastructure at the international transportation forum in Germany in May. "There is no commerce without transportation." said Yildirim and added that the existing infrastructure of transportation between the two countries should be improved with new cooperation areas and mutual investments. Yildirim pointed out that the commerce between Canada and Turkey has improved, saying, "Trading volume (between the two countries), which was $2 billion last year, has increased a bit this year; however, this figure does not reflect the truth when the potential of the two countries is considered." Canada wants to improve the trading connection with Turkey Fast emphasized that he has come to Turkey to improve the trading connection between Canada and Turkey. Fast said that he discussed how to strengthen the trading connection of the two countries with Turkish Minister of Economy Zafer Caglayan on Monday. Fast also stressed that the trading volume between the two countries has reached $2 billion by increasing 50% within two years, saying, "However, this trading volume is under the potential of the two countries. I would like to discuss how to improve the bilateral relations in the field of transportation and communication."
