Actor Wendell Pierce says he plans to open Sterling Farms grocery stores in low-income neighborhoods throughout New Orleans. Pierce is best known for his work on TV's "The Wire" and "Treme," as well as in the film "Cedar Rapids." The Baltimore Sun said Pierce decided to go into the supermarket business after shooting "Treme" in New Orleans and noticing there is a shortage of good supermarkets in some neighborhoods. He and a business partner have already opened Sterling Express, a convenience store which sells healthy foods at reasonable prices in New Orleans, but they plan to open a chain of full-service grocery stores in the near future, the newspaper said.
