Alexa Ray Joel has issued a thank-you to her fans following her collapse on stage during her April 12 performance. The 28-year-old singer and daughter to Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley was in residence at the Café Carlyle from April 1-12. She suddenly collapsed on stage Saturday, two songs into her final performance at the venue. Joel was rushed to the emergency room at New York Presbyterian hospital, and her spokeswoman, Claire Mercuri, said Monday that vasovagal syncope caused the singer's collapse. The condition causes a sudden drop in blood pressure and heart rate and reduces blood flow to the brain, and is a temporary ailment in Joel's case. Mercury said that Joel "had taken ill earlier in the afternoon [on Saturday]...but wanted the show to go on." The singer is reportedly feeling much better and requires no treatment. "I wanted to thank everyone for coming out to support me," Joel said in a statement. "I was excited and determined to fulfill my final performance and I really wanted to end my run with a bang, but this was not what I had in mind and hope I have the opportunity to make it up to the wonderful audience very soon."
