Algerian born, French raised actor and dancer Sofia Boutella has outraged Algerian fans by her participation in the French film “Street Dance 2”, in which she appears in a number of intimate scenes in revealing clothing. Algerians living in France have begun boycotting the film. A campaign to boycott the film was launched on the internet social networks Facebook and Twitter. The campaign demands that the film be banned from being screened in Algeria, describing it as an “insult to Algerian traditions and ethics.” Sofia plays the role of a dancer who enters a street dancing competition and performs in different cities around the world. Many are especially criticizing Sofia’s appearance in the film, since she is the daughter of the famous Algerian musician Safi Boutella, who discovered prominent Algerian singer El Cheb Khaled. According to the internet website MBC.net, previously Sofia was one of the dancers that accompanied famous American pop star Madonna on tour and in music videos. She separated from Madonna before two years.
