Bernard Glasser, producer of 'Return of the Fly,' dies in Los Angeles

Bernard Glasser, who produced science fiction films such as "Return of the Fly" and "The Day of the Triffids," died in Los Angeles, his family said. Glasser, who died Thursday, was 89, the Hollywood Reporter said. He was a substitute teacher at Beverly Hills High School in 1951 when he borrowed money from his landlord, invested in a studio lot in Hollywood and produced "Gold Raiders," a Western starring the Three Stooges. Glasser, a Chicago native, went on to produce "Space Master X-7" in 1957, and later worked on the "Assignment: Underwater" adventure series. He was a graduate of Indiana State University and is survived by four children and eight grandchildren, the Reporter said.
