Jared Leto won the first Oscar, for the supporting actor, at the 86th Academy Awards for his role in "Dallas Buyers Club." Leto played a transgender woman who develops an unexpected friendship with a homophobic straight man. Four others were also nominees for the award. They are Barkhad Abdi for his role in "Captain Phillips," Bradley Cooper in "American Hustle," Michael Fassbender in "12 Years a Slave" and Jonah Hill in "The Wolf of Wall Street." This was Leto's first nomination. He dedicated his award to "The 36 million people who have lost the battle to AIDS, and to all people who have lost a battle due to injustice, due to who they are or who they love." "To all the dreamers out there watching this tonight in places like the Ukraine and Venezuela, as you struggle to make your dreams happen, and live the impossible, we' re thinking of you tonight," said Leto. The 86th Academy Awards are being held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood with Ellen DeGeneres as host of the televised ceremony.
