Krist Nosovelic thinks Joan Jett, Kim Gordon, St. Vincent and Lorde did an amazing job as Nirvana frontwomen at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony last Thursday. The Nirvana bassist and drummer Dave Grohl performed alongside the women to celebrate Nirvana's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The honor came days after the 20th anniversary of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain's suicide. "I feel we conjured the spirit of the band," Nosovelic wrote Monday on his blog. "We felt that [having all women lead] would be a good tribute to Kurt and what Nirvana was all about." The bassist celebrates Jett and Gordon as the "matriarchs of Punk," and lauds St. Vincent and Lorde as the "powerful up-and-coming women in Rock." "Every one of these performances nailed a Nirvana tune in their own way," he continues. Joan Jett performed "Smells Like Teen Spirit" with Nosovelic and Grohl, while Sonic Youth musician Kim Gordon joined them for "Aneurism." Annie Clark, aka St. Vincent, did a rendition of "Lithium," and Lorde finished with "All Apologies." Nosovelic says the performances were "a bittersweet notion as we all miss Kurt so much."
