Famed Montreal-born journalist and short story scribe Mavis Gallant has died in her adopted home of Paris at the age of 91, her publisher announced. CBC News said Gallant's publisher confirmed her death Tuesday. Gallant is best known for her contributions to the New Yorker magazine and her many short-story collections, including "Montreal Stories," "Going Ashore" and "Home Truths." "I believed that if I was to call myself a writer, I should live on writing. If I could not live on it, even simply, I should destroy every scrap, every trace, every notebook and live some other way," she said in a 1996 interview with the Paris Review.
