Wil Wheaton says he is a nerd enthusiast, not a geek culture expert.
The 41-year-old actor and writer is best known for his roles as Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation and a fictionalized version of himself on The Big Bang Theory. A self-described science fiction and fantasy lover, Wheaton's acting credentials, Twitter and blog have made him into a sort of everyman champion for all things nerdy.
His new television series, The Wil Wheaton Project, focuses on his love for nerd culture. The actor discusses anything and everything on the program, from Game of Thrones to zombies and UFOs.
"They loved the idea," Wheaton tells Forbes. "They wanted the show to be a destination for geeks. They thought I was the person to open that door."
"The entertainment industry is paying attention to this culture I have loved my entire life," he continues. "It's an exciting time to be a nerd."
The Wil Wheaton project airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET on the SyFy channel.
