Over 50 Feared Dead in Attack on Afghan Corps in Balkh Province
Over fifty people are feared dead in a major attack on the key army corps
Kabul - Arab Today
Over fifty people are feared dead in a major attack on the key army corps located in northern Balkh province of Afghanistan.
The preliminary casualties toll disclosed by the Afghan officials late on Friday night indicated that eight soldiers had lost their lives in the attack while 11 others had sustained injuries.
However, Colonel John Thomas, a spokesman for the US military’s Central Command, said that the attack resulted in probably more than 50 casualties, adding that a mosque and a dining facility on the base seemed to be the subject of the significant attack, Afghan (Khaama Press) reported.
The Ministry of Defense spokesman Gen. Dawlat Waziri said Friday night that the attack was apparently carried out by a group of ten militants.
He said two of the militants having suicide vests carried out a suicide attack while seven others were shot dead by the security forces.
Gen. Waziri also added that one of the militants was arrested alive by the security forces during the clearance operation.
The Taliban militants group claimed responsibility for the attack.

To 'eternal style' of late Alaia
Paris - Al Maghrib Today
Two months after legendary designer Azzedine Alaia's sudden death plunged the fashion world into mourning, an exhibition in homage to the "King of Cling" opened Monday in his studios in Paris. The Tunisian-born designer, renowned for the way his clothes hugged the body, died suddenly in November aged 82, reportedly of heart failure after falling down the stairs at his home. The diminutive maverick, who ignored fashion week convention by showing when and where he wanted, in July produced his first couture collection in six years to rapturous reviews. Now some of his most iconic dresses are going on display in the glass-roofed gallery next to his studio and home in the Marais district where he used to show his creations. It includes the dress worn by supermodel Naomi Campbell, his longtime friend and muse, when she led hisGMT 09:22 2018 Monday ,22 January
