Morrissey, who canceled half of his US tour last year due to illness, will return in June for the Firefly Music Festival -- which will also feature a mystery headliner.
Firefly, which was launched in 2012 in Delaware in a bid to create a major music festival on the US East Coast, on Tuesday announced a lineup that also includes Nashville rockers Kings of Leon, alternative pop-rockers The Killers and hip-hop icon Snoop Dogg.
Firefly also teased by not naming one of the headliners, with the name blurred on a promotional poster.
Morrissey, the famously dour singer whose poetic vignettes of life's woes have won him a cult following, canceled a month of US shows last year due to illness. He later revealed cancer treatment and has resumed touring with dates around Europe.
A staunch animal rights activist, Morrissey demands venues not serve meat. A notice to potential food sellers on the Firefly website said that the festival was "no longer looking for vendors offering staple menu items" such as burgers but would instead consider purveyors of a "unique menu" including vegetarian items.
The former frontman of The Smiths recently refused to play in Iceland due to the "flesh-eating bloodlust" on its menu. He briefly walked off stage at the Coachella festival in California in 2009 after smelling burning meat.
Firefly has been growing in stature amid a surge in US music festivals, which increasingly are vital dates for many artists.
