Pittsburgh prepares for spring snowstorm

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch for the Pittsburgh area Sunday as a cold, wet storm put the brakes on spring. Up to 6 inches of heavy, wet snow was expected along with strong winds as the front moves through Sunday night, the statement said. Residents were warned power lines and tree branches could be brought down by snow, ice and winds gusting to 45 miles per hour, with visibility reduced to a quarter of a mile. Parts of Maryland and West Virginia were included in the storm watch. "What's happening, we have a low pressure system moving up the east coast and that is going to give us the potential for snowfall," said meteorologist Kristie Kubovic, KDKA-TV, Pittsburgh, reported. "This storm will take a break tomorrow and then return with some heavier precipitation on Monday," Kubovic said. "It looks to be a rain-snow mix at this point." High temperatures in Pittsburgh could reach only 38 degrees Fahrenheit Monday.
