Authorities in central Mexico have seized 32 liters (8.5 gallons) of food made with Mexican spiny-tailed iguanas, a protected and threatened species in the country, officials said Tuesday.
The environmental protection prosecutor's office said the containers of the iguana dish were seized from a restaurant in the village of Tehuixtla, Morelos state, following an anonymous complaint.
The seizure aims to "discourage a common practice" of eating threatened animals in the southern state of Guerrero and Morelos, the office said in a statement.
The statement did not say if the restaurant's owner faced any charges.
