Dongfeng Motor Company Ltd. will recall 3,607 sedans starting Dec. 9, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) said Thursday. The recall affects 2,509 Qashqai vehicles manufactured between Sept. 24, 2010 and Dec. 20, 2010, and 1,098 X-Trail sedans manufactured between Oct. 9, 2010 and Dec. 20, 2010, the product quality watchdog said in a statement posted on its website. In a report submitted to the AQSIQ, Dongfeng said a faulty electronic control unit in the steering system of the affected vehicles will make the sedans difficult to steer in extreme situations. The automaker promised to repair all defective vehicles and eliminate risks. The automaker said its franchised Dongfeng Nissan outlets will notify customers of the recall through mail or phone calls. Defective parts will be replaced free of charge.
