Cyprus tourist arrivals in June surged by nearly 10 per cent over the same period last year, despite a decline in the number of tourists from UK -traditionally the largest source country. This was borne out by recent figures released by the island’s tourism authorities who declared that June 2012 arrivals touched 329,777 as compared to 300,817 in June 2011. Large increases in the number of June arrivals from Russia -up by 42.1 per cent over last year -Sweden and Norway -up by 26.2% and 21.2% respectively -more than compensated for the decline from the UK market. Cypriot authorities also declared that revenue from tourism was 14.5% higher. From gulftoday
