A growing number of Italians are visiting the island of Cyprus with an 86 percent increase registered in the first semester of 2012 compared to the same period last year, according to data released by Cyprus' national tourism agency. A total of 11,000 Italians travelled to the island in the first six months of this year, the agency said. "The island's assets are the richness of its territory and its versatility', the tourism agency said in a statement. "Also important were new connections by low cost air carrier Ryanair between Pafos and four Italian cities (Pisa, Treviso, Milano Orio al Serio and Roma Ciampino), the already existing Bologna-Larnaca and the new, advantageous price policy by national carrier Cyprus Airways which contributed to the excellent results".
