
The number of tourists who visited Morocco in 2013 has gone up by 7%, Moroccan Minister of Tourism Lahcen Haddad said. In a statement to the Moroccan news agency, the minister revealed that the number of tourists had exceeded the 10 million mark last year. It is to be noted that tourism plays a key role in the Moroccan economy, earning a revenue of 59 billion Moroccan Dirham (around $8bn) in 2013. In order to maintain its strong position as an attractive tourist location, Morocco has stated that €15bn will be invested in tourism between 2012 and 2020.
