Hundreds of passengers including men, women, children and the elderly on Tuesday demonstrated at Karachi’s Cantt Station against the delays upto 24 hours in arrival and departure of trains. All the main line trains departure and arrival were delayed that resulted in unrest among the passengers waiting to board and those who waited for hours to receive their near and dear ones. Most of them had to spend the whole Monday night on the railway platform under sheds. The frustrated passengers blasted the railway management and raised anti-government slogans and allegedly damaged some railways property. They also complained the lack of basic facilities such as potable water, toilets and even shelter from the oppressive heat and rain. While Railway officials blamed the rains for the delays, the railways trade union leaders told newsmen that the rainfall was just an excuse and the real cause was shortage of engines. From : Khalij
