Qatar Airways has launched a Twitter-powered global race designed to connect people from around the world. The new global social media campaign, called Tweet-a-Meet, is designed to turn virtual connections into real ones. The airline is asking its customers to connect on Twitter, select a “race companion” and plan a meeting with this team mate at one of Qatar Airways’ 117 international destinations. Once registered on Qatar Airways’ micro site tweet-a-meet.com, contestants accumulate miles based on the number of tweets they send that include the hashtagtweet-a-meet. They are expected to tweet travel tips about their selected destination and are able to track their progress and see how they fare against other teams on a leader board posted on the official micro-site. The first three teams with the highest number of tweets at the end of the race will each win a pair of business class tickets to their chosen destination.
