Several Syrian intellectuals and writers issued a statement on Monday, calling for the boycott of Lebanese satellite channel Al Manar for its support of political Islamist party Hezbollah.
The group have issued a petition against Hezbollah and the channel, stating that both seek to distort the Syrian Revolution, referring to the party as “extremist” and “Jihadist”.
They added that Hezbollah has violated Syrian land and killed Syrian citizens without distinguishing between men, women or children – a revolutionary or an ordinary citizen.
“The party, by intervening in Syria, seeks to turn the revolution into a sectarian war with indiscriminate killing,” the petition said.
It concluded: "Al Manar and other channels which operate to benefit Hezbollah and support the Iranian-Syrian totalitarian rule, play a role in justifying the aggression and genocide. We wish you to boycott this channel, and its counterparts.”
The statement was signed by more than 250 intellectuals and artists.
