British actress Keira Knightley will make her Broadway debut next year, starring in a new adaptation of the Emile Zola novel "Therese Raquin," New York's Roundabout Theatre Company announced Thursday.
The 29-year-old -- probably best known for the Hollywood blockbuster "Pirates of the Caribbean" films -- will take on the lead role in the tale of love, lust, betrayal and guilt, which will officially open on October 29, 2015.
Knightley will play Therese, who has made peace with her loveless marriage to a weak man when she embarks on a passionate affair that ends in tragedy.
The adaptation -- based on the 19th century novel -- is by Helen Edmundson, and the production will be directed by Evan Cabnet.
Knightley first rose to prominence in Britain with the smash-hit film "Bend It Like Beckham." She was nominated for a best actress Oscar in 2006 for her portrayal of Elizabeth in "Pride and Prejudice."
She made her West End debut in London with Moliere's "The Misanthrope" in 2009.
