Ferrari Classiche-certified 2004 Ferrari Enzo Berlinetta is expected to snatch £800-900k
Some 80 motor cars spanning nine decades, ranging from a 1917 FIAT to a 2004 Ferrari, will be on offer when the Bonhams Motor Car Department returns to the RAF Museum in Hendon
, North West London, on Monday April 29.
Among the estimated £3-million worth of cars is a rare and desirable 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster that has been in a private collection since 2005 (estimate £450,000 - 500,000), and a 1929 Bentley 4½-litre Tourer (estimate £350,000 - 400,000) that has been owned by the same vendor since 1960 and comprehensively restored.
Bidders looking for a restoration project can pick up one of the earliest known surviving right-hand drive Jaguar E-Type roadsters (estimate £25,000 - 30,000). Purchased by its current owner in 1965, the remarkably original 1961 ‘Flat Floor’ Roadster was taken off the road in the early 1980s and has lain hidden in a garage for more than 30 years.
Meanwhile, the top-estimate lot is a Ferrari Classiche-certified 2004 Ferrari Enzo Berlinetta (£800,000 - 900,000) that has had only two owners and comes with just 800 miles on the odometer.
John Polson, Specialist in the Bonhams Motor Car Department, said: “The RAF Museum provides a perfect and evocative backdrop for a sale of collectors’ motor cars and this is always an auction that attracts a good crowd. Last year’s sale in particular recorded some very strong prices for a number of cars, particularly for those with a strong provenance or cultural significance.
“It has been an excellent 2013 so far for the global department, with a record sale total at our Scottsdale auction in the US in January, more than €13 million realised at our Paris auction at the Grand Palais in February, and a fantastic $3.75 million inaugural auction at Boca Raton in Florida. We hope to continue this success, and the growth of the classic car market, with our Hendon sale.”
