
Othman Benjelloun, Aziz Akhannouch and Anas Sefrioui are amongst the 25 billionaires in Africa, announced Forbes magazine on its 2017 World’s Billionaires list released March 20.
Benjelloun, the president of BMCE Bank, is still the richest man in Morocco, with a fortune estimated at 1.9 billion dollars. He was listed 14th richest person in Africa and 1,098th richest person in the world. Benjelloun is also the shareholder of the majority of the RMA Watanya insurance company and holds a share of the mobile telecommunications operator Meditel.
The second richest man in Morocco is Akhannouch, the Minister of Agriculture and Marine Fisheries, with a USD 1.58 billion estimated fortune. Akhannouch owns the Moroccan conglomerate company Akwa Group. He is 19th wealthiest man Africa and 1,376th in the world.
The last Moroccan to appear on the list is Anas Sefrioui with an estimated fortune of USD 1.06 billion. Sefrioui is the shareholder of the majority the first Moroccan real estate group, Addoha. He came in at 24th richest men in Africa and the 1,795th in the world.
The richest man in Africa is the Nigeran businessman Aliko Dangote, who own USD 12.2 billion from investing in cement, flour, sugar, and salt industries.
At the international level, Bill Gates scored the top spot for the fourth year in a row with an estimated fortune of USD 86 billion, an increase of USD 11 billion since last year.
