
Ahmad Geweili, the former secretary-general of Council of Arab Economic Unity (CAEU) and former trade minister, passed away on Monday at the age of 77.
Born in 1937 in an Egyptian governorate of Beheira, he graduated from Faculty of Agriculture in 1957 and got a PHD in agricultural economy in 1962.
Geweili started his career as an agricultural engineer at Ministry's of Agriculture Reclamation Lands in 1957, then he was appointed as a demonstrator at Alexandria University between 1958-59.
He was appointed as governor of Damietta in 1984 and Ismailiya in 1991 and minister of trade in 1994.
Geweili, a prominent economist at local and regional levels, published many scientific researches on regional and international journals and was a supervisor of many master's and doctoral degrees.
