In the context of spreading promotional messages about the chocolate packed in the medical needles through social websites and smart phones, the Food Control Department of Dubai Municipality learned that the labelled company has no relation with the product. Khalid Sherif, Director of Food Control Department said that this product is unlicensed and the needles used to pack it are found manufactured for medical purposes, hence the people should not use it in any case. ‘The Ministry of Health confirmed that the medical needles are not clean or sanitized and might be used in hospitals to take blood or inject medicine. Therefore, we strongly advise the public to purchase food products from authorized establishments only as they get approval for all food items apart from to the periodical check up by the civic body,’ Khalid said. ‘In such contexts, the civic body works with Ministry of Health and Ministry of Environment to take necessary actions and confirm the compliance of the product with the legal requirements. Accordingly, Dubai has banned certain harmful sweets for kids, which are hard to digest or encourage bad habits like smoking,’ he explained. ‘The civic body is keen to take required action to protect the public interest and health especially the health of new generation in line with the applicable rules and regulations of the Ministry of Health,’ he added.
