Doha: Centre rehabilitates 60 drug addicts

The Guide Me Centre affiliated to the Eid bin Mohammad al-Thani Charity Trust has successfully rehabilitated as many as 60 chronic drug addicts. This was stated by the Centre’s director, Sultan al-Oteibi, as he addressed a Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) forum for former addicts on Sunday at the Aspire Dome. In recognition of its achievements, the Centre has won accreditation from the Federal Mental Health Organisation and an ISO Certification. The most noteworthy thing is that the centre is now managed by many of those who have been rehabilitated. “Drug addicts in the GCC are in a more serious condition than those suffering from terminal illnesses or victims of wars. It is therefore imperative on all of us to operate on a war footing to root out this evil from our society,” said al-Oteibi. The forum was also addressed by the executive director of a similar centre that is being established under the patronage of HH Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani.
