The Management of Al Majaz Amphitheatre, affiliated to the Sharjah Media Centre (SMC) announced that the proceeds of Lebanese singer Majida El Roumi’s concert – set to take place on Friday, January 23 - will go to the “Big Heart Foundation” to support needy and refugee children across the world.
The “Big Heart Foundation” is a humanitarian initiative launched by Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and UNHCR Eminent Advocate for Refugee Children, to provide protection to refugee children worldwide and ensure a better future for them.
Donation boxes will be located in different places in the Amphitheatre during the performance to receive donations from the audiences, in order to help needy children and those affected by war throughout the world.
Majida El Roumi expressed her delight at allocating the proceeds of her concert to the Big Heart Foundation and said: “I am proud to join hands with the Big Heart Foundation in raising hope among children who are suffering from difficult conditions as a result of wars and natural disasters throughout the world. Joining hands with the Big Heart Foundation in raising hope and putting smiles on the faces of children and helping them makes me confident that goodness and peace will finally prevail in the world. This is simply because life is not worth living if children are not happy and safe. With their laughter and kind hearts, children are the most beautiful things in the world, and hence I am confident that the future will be better for us and them. "
Osama Samra, Director of the Sharjah Media Centre, said, “The Emirate of Sharjah, under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, has played a leading role in the advocacy of humanitarian issues, and providing the basic needs to those in need regardless of their religion or color or nationality. The Big Heart Foundation, launched by Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, has not only succeeded in providing assistance to children, but has also worked to mobilize international support necessary for the protection of children and reducing risks to their health and safety."
He pointed out that the Sharjah Media Centre decided to allocate the revenues from Majida El Roumi’s concert to the Big Heart Foundation after consulting with the renowned artist who has always been known for her humanitarian initiatives. She donated the full proceeds from the sales of the first edition of her new album, Ghazal, (Words of Romance), which was released two years ago, to finance the education of needy students at the American University of Beirut.
Samra added that El Roumi welcomed the idea of donating the proceeds of her concert in Sharjah for needy children and to support the Big Heart Foundation’s efforts to alleviate their suffering and highlight their humanitarian cause.
Mariam Al Hammadi, Director of Salam Ya Seghar, lauded SMC’s initiative to dedicate the revenues from this groundbreaking show to the Big Heart Foundation. She reaffirmed that the directives of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, that call on national institutions and community members to cooperate with and support the Foundation, has contributed to protecting tens of thousands of children and ensuring their rightful access to shelter, food, healthcare, psychological care and education in many countries across the world.
She stressed that the ongoing interaction with the campaign by government and private organizations in Sharjah, and the UAE, particularly by the Sharjah Media Centre, shows that the culture of giving and the high sense of responsibility towards the suffering of fellow human beings are deeply rooted in UAE society due to the humanitarian legacy laid by the founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and maintained by subsequent UAE leaders. The culture of giving, embraced by the UAE since its establishment four decades ago, will remain a key pillar in the promotion of a culture of peace and tolerance throughout the world, she said.
Sponsored by Tilal Properties, the concert will be held at 9:30 pm, Friday, 23rd January. Tickets for the concert will be exclusively available at www.ticketmaster.ae, in six categories, including AED 1,500, AED 1,000, AED 800, AED 700, AED 500 and AED 250.
The Big Heart Foundation was launched in June 2013 under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, UNHCR Eminent Advocate for Refugee Children, to support Syrian refugee children. The Foundation has succeeded in raising US$13 million over the past year and contributed in meeting the needs of hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees through the provision of emergency healthcare, clothing, blankets, shelter, and food. The campaign was turned from emergency relief to education, as part of the efforts that aim to bring Syrian refugee children back to school to complete their education after they fled their war-torn country.
