At least seven people were killed and 30 were injured -- several critically -- in two explosions Friday near a hotel in Karachi, Pakistan, authorities said. The city was put on high alert and shops were closed following the explosions in its Ancholi sector, Dawn News reported. The explosions shattered windows and destroyed motor vehicles, and power was disrupted for a short time, the report said. A top official of Sindh, the provincial capital of Karachi, called the attack cowardly and Altaf Hussain, head of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement political party condemned it, Dawn reported. An MQM official said Saturday would be observed as a day of mourning while the head of the Shiite Majlis-e-Wahdatul Muslimeen called for a three-day mourning period. Source: UPI
