Car bomb against army recruits kills 8

A car bomb targeting army recruits killed at least eight people and wounded 12 in Baghdad on Sunday, security and medical officials said. The bombing occurred near a taxi and bus station where men who had submitted applications to join the army were preparing to return to their homes. The blast followed another against army recruits in the capital on Thursday, when a suicide bomber detonated an explosives belt, killing 23 people. Militants opposed to the Iraqi government frequently target security forces with bombings and shootings. Violence in Iraq has reached a level not seen since 2008, when the country was emerging from a period of brutal sectarian killings.
