Turkey ambassador to Egypt leaves for Istanbul

Turkish Ambassador to Egypt Huseyin Avni Botsali left Cairo International Airport on Wednesday evening en route to Istanbul. He declined to make any statements. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry downgraded diplomatic relations with Turkey, declared the Turkish ambassador a "persona non-grata" and decided to recall its ambassador from Ankara over remarks by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan about Egypt's domestic affairs and his criticism of Egyptian authorities.
