Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday called on the Middle East Quartet to support a French initiative to hold an international conference to end the Israeli occupation.
Abbas made the appeal in similar messages he sent to the Quartet representatives: UN Secretary General Ban-Ki-moon, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, US Secretary of State John Kerry and EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini.
He also called on them to back the establishment of a Palestinian state within the borders of 1967 with Al-Quds as its capital, especially amid the Israeli escalation against the Palestinians and expansion in the settlement construction, which threaten the two-state solution.
He stressed the importance of moving to rescue the peace process and guarantee security and stability.
