Hanan Ashrawi, member of the Palestinian Liberation Organization’s (PLO) Executive Committee Sunday said that the choice of going to the UN is to correct the path exploited by Israel to eliminate the possibility of peace and the Palestinian right to self-determination. Ashrawi met with a group of reporters to discuss the latest political developments concerning the efforts and diplomatic moves of going to the United Nations (UN), in Ramallah. “We are going to the international community to tell them that we are part of this community, and that we want a solution based on the international law and not on the balance of powers or Israel’s unilateralism. This is a right move which will put the Palestinian cause in its right frame,” she said She said that going to the UN is a comprehensive strategy built on the rule of the international law, which will prevent the deterioration, collapse and violence resulting from the Israeli measures and from the international failure in dealing with the Palestinians in this frame. Ashrawi stressed on the importance of holding Israel accountable by the international community for its illegal measures, indicating that the choice of going to the UN clarifies that the lands occupied in 1967 are occupied by the law and not disputed on or free lands with no owners, Jerusalem is the capital of the Palestinian state and the refugees have the right to return.
